Lagos Seals Five Firms over Tax Evasion.

Lagos Seals Five Firms over Tax Evasion

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has sealed-off premises of five companies for allegedly evading tax to the tune of over N100 million. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the companies were sealed for not remitting their tax liabilities from 2000 to 2007 to the coffers of the state government.

One of the LIRS officials, who requested anonymity, told NAN that the government had sensitised firms in the state on the need to remit their taxes promptly but some would not comply. “In this modern day of tax awareness in the country some companies still say that they are not aware of tax payment to the government.

Women, pupils, others get Ejigbo LCDA's largesse

By Isaac Taiwo

IF the plan was that no group would be left out in celebrations marking 200 days of the Kehinde Bamigbetan administration in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, then it worked quite satisfactorily.

All significant groups, whether men, women, school children, artisans, Community Development Associations, Co-operative Societies and others, were beneficiaries of the LCDA's gesture to mark the event.

Among the students was Okeke John who showered blessings upon Ejigbo LCDA for coming to the assistance of his parents by paying for his General Certificate of Education (GCE) fees.

He was one of the 485 beneficiaries.

"My ambition has been to read Banking, but having failed GCE once, my parents were hard up to pay my fees again before this opportunity came to help me get another chance. "I will ever remain grateful for this gesture," he said.

About 35 students were also tipped to enjoy the Ejigbo LCDA Internship Programme during which they would be paid N10,000, which would remove some burden from their parents.

As grateful also, were the 30 pregnant women in the Ejigbo LCDA who went home with free maternity packs.

Dangote’s plot against Gov Fashola.

By DARE ODUFOWOKAN and
KUNLE OWOLABI
There appears to be no let up in the titanic battle between frontline Nigerian billionaires, Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote, with the sensational disclosure by Otedola that his former ally turned foe, was involved in a high-level plot to scuttle Action Congress’s (AC) victory in the governorship election in Lagos State in 2007.
The April 21 election brought Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola to office.

Nigeria Legend Peter Fregene To Walk Again After Spinal Cord Op

Bed-ridden for eight years, doctors have now given former Nigeria international goalkeeper a chance to walk again...

6 Jun 2009 20:24:04

Peter Fregene, or the 'Flying Cat' as he was known during his playing career, is a joyous man after doctors told him he will be able to walk again after he underwent a spinal cord operation in Lagos.

"The doctors have given me a 75 per cent chance to walk again in two, three years' time," said Fregene, whose international career spanned from 1966 to 1983.

The acrobatic goalkeeper, who featured for Nigeria at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico and the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations in Libya, was abandoned to his fate for almost eight years before Lagos State Governor and a Manchester United fan, Babatunde Raji Fashola, came to his rescue.

"Fashola is my Governor. He has wiped away my tears when even the Nigeria Football Federation could not assist me," said Fregene.

Fashola Grooms Banire As His Successor?

With All Due Respect To Dr. Banire (A Wonderful And Hard Working Lagosian)

@ Happy Lagosian, we say let it remain a rumor, we have so much to do and we don't need unnecessary distractions, agitation and succession talk.

Eko o ni baje...

...o baje ti

Dr. Muiz Banire

Just as politicking is already in top gear towards 2011, in some states across the country, Lagos State is not left out as political undercurrent is already on as to who succeeds the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN).

A reliable political source revealed that the permutation among opinion molders in Lagos State is favourable to Dr. Muiz Banire, the current Commissioner for Environment as a good hand to carry on from wherever Fashola may stop.

Though it is yet unclear as to whether or not Governor Fashola will be contesting for the second term but the governor who has won the hearts of many Lagosians through the numerous developmental projects embarked upon by his administration is surely not ready to discuss issues of second term.

During a press conference marking the second year anniversary of Governor Raji Fashola, on Friday, May 29, 2009, when asked about his position on the issue of second term, Fashola who compared the situation to a football match, noted that he has just started the second half of his tenure and that it is out of place to ask him about next season.

According to our source, Banire who is regarded in many quarters as a disciplined politician like Governor Fashola is being groomed to take over the mantle of governorship incase Fashola decides not to contest for the second term. While he would be on a waiting list if the governor re-contest in 2011.

Dr. Muiz Banire, who read law before proceeding for his Master’s degree at the University of Lagos, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. He was the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State during the Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s regime.

Lagos First Lady Thanks Lagosians For Improved Tax Payment:: Receives Kids From Pampers Private School, Surulere, Lagos,

First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, on Monday expressed her utmost gratitude to Lagosians for their prompt response to tax payment, attributing the several on-going projects in the State to it.

Mrs Fashola, who received staff and pupils of Pampers Private School, Surulere, Lagos, stated that Lagosians are particularly happy to see their taxes spent judiciously on vital projects within the State.

Expressing her delight with the personal persuasion of many Lagosians to pay their taxes, Mrs Fashola stated that “Everyone you meet will tell you that I am going to campaign, I will be the first person to pay my tax and I will tell my neighbours to pay theirs as well”.

The Lagos State First Lady then enlisted the pupils of Pampers Private School to gently encourage their parents to continue to pay their taxes, adding that “You must get home and ask your Moms and Dads, are they paying their taxes as well?”
