Fashola Grooms Banire As His Successor?

With All Due Respect To Dr. Banire (A Wonderful And Hard Working Lagosian)

@ Happy Lagosian, we say let it remain a rumor, we have so much to do and we don't need unnecessary distractions, agitation and succession talk.

Dr. Muiz Banire

Just as politicking is already in top gear towards 2011, in some states across the country, Lagos State is not left out as political undercurrent is already on as to who succeeds the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN).

A reliable political source revealed that the permutation among opinion molders in Lagos State is favourable to Dr. Muiz Banire, the current Commissioner for Environment as a good hand to carry on from wherever Fashola may stop.

Though it is yet unclear as to whether or not Governor Fashola will be contesting for the second term but the governor who has won the hearts of many Lagosians through the numerous developmental projects embarked upon by his administration is surely not ready to discuss issues of second term.

During a press conference marking the second year anniversary of Governor Raji Fashola, on Friday, May 29, 2009, when asked about his position on the issue of second term, Fashola who compared the situation to a football match, noted that he has just started the second half of his tenure and that it is out of place to ask him about next season.

According to our source, Banire who is regarded in many quarters as a disciplined politician like Governor Fashola is being groomed to take over the mantle of governorship incase Fashola decides not to contest for the second term. While he would be on a waiting list if the governor re-contest in 2011.

Dr. Muiz Banire, who read law before proceeding for his Master’s degree at the University of Lagos, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. He was the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State during the Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s regime.
