Lagos gets new Crime-Fighting Bell 412 EP helicopters.





Lagos — Crime fighting yesterday received a major boost in Lagos state as the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola took delivery of two multipurpose helicopters from Caverton Helicopters Limited.
Unveiling the helicopters at the State House in Alausa, Fashola said the choice of the Bell 412 EP was informed by its multi faceted platform, which allowed it perform paramilitary, civil and utility functions.
The governor did not disclose the cost of the helicopters, which were manufactured by Bell Helicopter Textron headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, United States, though its manufacturing wing is actually based in Mirabel, Canada.
Speaking on their significance, Fashola said the helicopters "are specially and uniquely configured to be used in fire fighting, emergency services, search and rescue, air ambulance and airborne surveillance roles".
The governor explained that it had become imperative for the government to use helicopters for security operation to enable it complement the efforts of the police and other security operatives on land and water.
